Hippocrates was born around 460 BC on the island of Kos, Greece. He is known as the founder of medicine and was regarded as the greatest physician of his time. He based his medical practice on the observations of the human body. Hippocrates believed disease had only natural causes and natural cures. Doctors still refer to the Hippocratic oath; instituted by Hippocrates who is also credited with laying the foundations of medicine as a science.
“Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food.”Sounds like a simple concept that holds reverence, yet It seems that no one is actually implementing it. People just need to take the time and think of their food as an investment in themselves and more importantly their future self. In the same way, the opposite holds true that the compounding effect of poor diet and habits will determine how they will feel and who they are going to be in many ways.
IT’S A MODERN-DAY EPIDEMIC
You see them everywhere; middle aged people using the electric carts at the grocery store filling their carts with comfort food. Hippocrates said “…that disease was not a punishment inflicted by the Gods but rather the product of environmental factors, diet, and living habits”. All disease needs is a toxic environment in which to grow and over time your bad lifestyle choices will have its breaking point.
Pharmaceuticals use Science to replicate elements that are found in foods to create certain medicine. These pharmaceutical companies already know that nature has provided the answer for these diseases but they cannot patent something of nature. The problem with man-made elements is the body must have a carbon based substance to complement it because the body only accepts the substance through the process of chemical affinity.
This is why the body will see these lab made elements as ‘alien’ and toxic to the liver giving it a heavy load to bear; many times doing more damage than good. It’s a fact that two-thirds of all laboratory studies cannot be reproduced; making most of your pharmaceuticals more of a placebo.
I don’t think people realize how intelligent their bodies are. It’s doing everything that it can to Keep Us Alive despite our bad food choices and habits. The human body is a bioelectric supercomputer taking on trillions of different electrical responses to the brain every second. We have no recollection of these biomechanical responses because it’s just what our bodies DO… if we had to ourselves control every aspect of our body we wouldn’t make it even a day.
HEALING IS A NORMAL PROCESS
What happens when you get a cut? Your body heals itself. What happens when you get sick? Your body heals itself. The tragedy is that most people wait too long or then seek outside help instead of relying on the body’s own ability to heal.
What do I mean by this? People have a tendency to wait for that breaking point and it may be too late to reverse naturally so then they have to seek medical assistance. All this can be avoided if we just take Hippocrates’ concept and “Let thy food be thy medicine”. Antibiotics wreak havoc on our bodies’ natural ability to protect and defend and as a result weakens our ability to heal properly.
Unfortunately, because of modern farming practices, the animals that we consume are sick and confined to small spaces and made to eats grains that are not part of their natural diets so they must be put on a regimen of antibiotics. We consume those animals and in turn we also consume what the animals eat; repeating the cycle of sickness.
